This Hotel Portfolio Skipped the DAS Build. Its Wi-Fi Already Did the Job.

Instead of waiting on a distributed antenna system that carriers were no longer funding, Ocean Properties put the Wi-Fi it already owned to work through the Sherwood Network.

Hotel Wi-Fi used for carrier coverage

For years, the plan for indoor coverage at Ocean Properties' hotels was a DAS — a distributed antenna system spanning lobbies, ballrooms, conference floors, and garage levels. The quote ran to seven figures. The timeline ran to years.

Then carriers stopped funding those builds. The DAS never happened, and guests kept complaining about one bar in the ballroom and dead air in the parking garage. The portfolio had a coverage problem and no way to buy its way out of it.

So Ocean Properties did something simpler. It put the Wi-Fi it already owned to work through the Sherwood Network. The same enterprise Wi-Fi guests use for streaming now doubles as carrier-grade indoor coverage, carrying offload traffic for subscribers of participating carriers.

The switch was unglamorous on purpose. Enable Passpoint auto-connect and carrier offload on the existing infrastructure, then add small Sherwood-compatible hotspots only where coverage ran thin. No new cabling, no construction, no antenna farm on the roof.

What changed for guests is what matters. Carrier calls and data now hand off to hotel Wi-Fi automatically the moment a device walks inside — full bars in the ballroom, the garage, and the back-of-house offices where staff work all day.

A build that was supposed to take years was replaced by a rollout measured in weeks, at a fraction of the cost. The savings don't just sit in a budget line — they fund better guest Wi-Fi, which is what the portfolio wanted all along.

And the network pays back. On the Robinhood Chain, the portfolio's hotspots earn for the offload traffic they carry, priced in SHW and settled transparently, with every byte verifiable on-chain.

The DAS was never the goal; coverage was. The Wi-Fi already did the job — it just needed to be put to work.
